Sept. 9, 2026 Sphere 3D Corp. d/b/a DarkHorse Technologies (NASDAQ: ANY) enters Wednesday’s trading session in focus after shares surged in after-hours trading Tuesday following major strategic developments aimed at accelerating the company’s expansion into artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC) and data center infrastructure.
ANY closed Tuesday up 5.6% at $2.45 before climbing another 12.65% after hours to $2.7599, with approximately 1.99 million additional shares traded. The move followed news of a $5 million private placement, the planned sale of non-core assets and advancement of a potentially significant AI/HPC data center project in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The stock is also experiencing short-term upward movement alongside medium- and long-term consolidation, putting ANY in focus as investors watch whether the after-hours momentum carries into Wednesday’s trading session and beyond.
Following a 90-day strategic review, Sphere plans to concentrate resources on developing AI factories and HPC infrastructure throughout the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) region. The company has agreed to sell its Iowa site for $1.5 million, expects to recover approximately $500,000 in utility deposits and prepayments, and has agreed to sell approximately 5,500 legacy mining machines for about $3 million. Together with the private placement, these transactions represent approximately $10 million in announced or expected gross proceeds and recoveries, before expenses and subject to applicable closing conditions.
A centerpiece of the strategy is Hopkinsville, where Sphere has secured an option on approximately 20 acres and proposed a new 50 MW data center supported by a 65 MW substation. Sphere is also evaluating conversion of its existing approximately 15 MW Hopkinsville operation to AI and HPC workloads. The proposed new development remains subject to required approvals.
Following the Iowa sale, Sphere expects to own and/or operate approximately 50 MW of energized capacity across four Tennessee and Kentucky sites, excluding the proposed new Hopkinsville data center and other pipeline opportunities. Its mining agreements with Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ: BTDR) are also structured to preserve the potential ability to redeploy capacity toward AI and HPC workloads.
With fresh capital, asset monetization and a more focused development roadmap, Sphere is positioning its energized power portfolio around growing demand for AI computing, GPU infrastructure, HPC and next-generation data centers, putting NASDAQ: ANY in focus as Wednesday’s trading session begins.
