September 8, 2026 VivoSim Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIVS) is targeting one of pharmaceutical development’s most expensive challenges: identifying drug toxicity before a candidate reaches human clinical trials. Using its NAMkind™ 3D human liver and intestinal models combined with AI-powered predictive toxicology, VivoSim is developing tools designed to help pharmaceutical companies determine which drug candidates should advance, be modified or be discontinued earlier.

Across a clinical dataset of 92 small-molecule compounds, VivoSim reported that its NAMkind™ Liver model achieved 91% predictive accuracy, 90% sensitivity and 95% specificity under repeat-dose conditions. The company has also reported 96% predictive accuracy for potential drug-induced diarrhea using its VitroSense™ platform, which combines human intestinal model data with machine-learning analysis.

Earlier identification of liver and gastrointestinal toxicity could potentially help drug developers avoid advancing risky compounds while reducing the possibility that promising candidates are abandoned prematurely—allowing development capital to be directed toward stronger programs.

VivoSim is also developing a rat liver model to complement its human liver platform, creating a cross-species capability designed to help determine whether toxicity observed in animals may translate to humans or instead be species-specific.

$5M Eli Lilly Milestone in Focus

Adding credibility to VivoSim’s broader drug-development history, the company recently received a $5 million milestone payment from Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) after the first patient was dosed in a Phase 2 study of a drug program previously developed by VivoSim and sold to Lilly. VivoSim remains eligible for up to an additional $45 million in potential regulatory and commercial milestone payments as the program advances, although development is now controlled entirely by Lilly.

The opportunity for VivoSim extends beyond detecting toxicity. If its technology proves repeatable through broader validation and pharmaceutical adoption, NAMkind™ and VitroSense™ could become part of the decision layer between drug discovery and human clinical trials, helping pharmaceutical companies identify which programs deserve additional time and capital.
